South Korean police and the U.S. military are investigating a fire that destroyed an American military helicopter after an emergency landing in South Korea. The southern branch of the Pohang fire station said the MH-53 Navy helicopter made the emergency landing in a rice paddy in the southern seaside village about 230 miles southeast of Seoul at 12:30 p.m. Friday, Yonhap news agency reported. The dozen U.S. soldiers who had been aboard evacuated and no injuries were reported, the fire station said. The fire, which started on the rotor after the helicopter hit the ground, destroyed the aircraft. The reason for the emergency landing was not immediately clear. The helicopter had been delivering soldiers and military supplies to a Navy unit, Yonhap said.
