Reducing the consumption of starch can help in the treatment of patients with diabetes, said Professor at Kuwait Faculty of Medicine Dr. Hussein Dashti on Monday.
Dashti told Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) that he had participated with some 25 researchers and doctors in an article on the latest studies, which revealed that reducing starch-rich meals or avoiding that group of food is an important element in treating diabetes.
The article was recently published by the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, he noted.
The reduction method was applied on patients with diabetes way before the discovery of insulin, he said, adding that eating less starch would reduce the high levels of blood glucose, while also preventing cardiovascular diseases.
