A man, who was convicted earlier of intentionally

A man, who was convicted earlier of intentionally causing a car crash that killed his wife, has had his 13-year jail sentence upheld on appeal.

The Appeals Court in Al Dhafra also fined him Dh40,000.

Official court documents stated that the Emirati man, who was speeding after arguing with his wife, deliberately made his car swerve from the road, which caused serious injuries to the woman and resulted in her death.

The man sustained minor injuries in the accident.

A forensic report said although the woman died of injuries sustained in the accident, she had a dislocation in her left arm caused by her husband's beatings. Police investigations revealed that the couple had disputes.

The man had also confessed during interrogation that he deliberately caused the crash because he was angry. Eyewitnesses presented by prosecutors also confirmed it.

Prosecutors charged the man with causing his wife's death in a road accident.

The Criminal Court of First Instance in Al Dhafra found him guilty of the charge, but he appealed the verdict. His lawyer argued that this was a "normal accident" and that there was "no sufficient evidence to prove that the man deliberately caused it to kill his wife".

The lawyer requested the court to treat the case as causing an accident and not his client killing his wife
