The head of Iraqi Journalists Syndicate Moaed Al-Lami announced that the General Secretariat of Arab Journalists\' Federation’s meetings will be held in Baghdad on Saturday December 17, with the
participation of 20 Arab countries.
Al-Lami confirmed to ‘Arabstoday’ that delegations from 14 Arab countries have already arrived at Baghdad, including the head of Syrian Journalists Syndicate Elias Murad, while the rest will arrive in the next few hours on Friday.
Al-Lami also said that Oman is the only country that apologised for not attending due to organisational problems, without giving further details.
He added that the events combined with intensive meetings during the meeting’s two days, December 17 and 18, including studying of future plans and programmes, with the current changes of the Arab world.
Moreover, Al-Lami announced the launch of the Baghdad Annual Press Award to support the media\'s role in the Arab World.
For his part, chairman of the Arab Journalists\' Federation (AJF) Ibrahim Nafie, who arrived in Baghdad on Thursday, told ‘Arabstoday’ that the General Secretariat of Arab Journalists\' Federation’s meetings are to take some decisions in favour of Arab media.
Nafie also stressed the need to keep pace with new developments in media in orfer to better represent current events in the Arab World.
