Nasri Akawi used to work for Hawadeth magazine Beirut - Georges Chahine Lebanese journalist bid farewell to their colleague Nasri Akawi on Saturday afternoon in Saint Georgious Church, after he committed suicide on Friday by throwing himself out the window of his home in a Beirut suburb. Akawi reportedly decided to take his own life after despairing over his dire financial situation since the closing of the magazine Hawadeth for whom he worked. The ‎magazine closed as a result of a conflict between the heirs of late owner Melhem Karam. Several other publications in ‎Arabic, English and French were also shut down. A number of journalists, who worked for the closed publications have filed a law suit after being dismissed from their job without receiving any compensation.
