Leader of Al Gama'a al Islamiyya Omar Abdel-Rahman, 78, has died at the US Butner Federal Medical Center in North Carolina, where he was serving a life sentence.
Abdel Rahman was convicted in 1995 of plotting terror attacks throughout New York City, targeting the United Nations and other New York City landmarks, and sentenced to life in prison in 1996 at the age of 55.
He was one of six suspects in that car-bomb attack which killed six people and injured about 1,000 others.
