France has expressed concern over jail sentences against two journalists from Cumhuriyet newspaper.

France insists on freedom of speech and press as main component of any democratic society, Spokesman for Foreign Ministry Roman Nadal said in press statements.

France also condemned the attempted shooting of Turkish journalist Can Dündar outside the courthouse, Nadal said. 

Two prominent Turkish journalists were sentenced to at least five years in jail for revealing state secrets on Friday.
