A group of Egypt's renowned journalists and press unionists attended a memorial service on Wednesday for MENA's Managing Editor and board member Ezzat Shaaban who died last Sunday at the age of 54 following sudden health complications.
During the service, Head of the Syndicate of Journalists Yehia Qallash hailed late Shaaban as a 'genius' who won hearts of all fellow journalists.
Alaa Heidar, board chairman and editor in chief of MENA, said he was astonished by the bad news, praising efforts exerted by Shaaban to save the agency's assets.
Shaaban joined MENA in 1990 and served as MENA's correspondent in Amman.
For years, he served as the agency's reporter in the Egyptian presidency, the Cabinet and the Ministry of Defense.
