President Abdel Fattah El Sisi sent a cable of condolences on Saturday to Cubaian President Raul Castro over the death of former leader Fidel Castro.

"Castro was a symbol of struggling and defending the issues of developing countries. He played a prominent role in order to promote historical relations between Egypt and Cuba at the official and popular levels," Sisi said in the message, quoted by presidential spokesman Alaa Yousef.

Castro died on Friday at the age of 90.
