UN Saudi Ambassador Abdallah Al Mouallimi called for the UN Security Council (UNSC) to condemn attacks on the Saudi embassy and consulate in Iran.
Also, he described the Iranian assault on the Saudi diplomatic premises as a serious violation of international charters and norms.
He made the remarks during a UNSC meeting held in the early hours of Tuesday.
"Saudi Arabia would restore ties with Iran when Tehran stopped meddling in the affairs of other countries, including our own," Al Mouallimi said.
Furthermore, he called on Iran to protect all diplomatic missions.
Riyadh would continue to work "very hard" to support bids for peace in Syria and Yemen despite the spat, according to Al Mouallimi.
Iran sent a letter on Monday to the U.N. Security Council expressing its “regret” over attacks by protesters on Saudi missions in the Islamic republic, vowing to prevent any similar incidents in the future.
It added: “The Islamic Republic of Iran will take necessary measures to prevent the occurrence of similar incidents in the future.”
