Abdullah Al-Mesbahi\'s film was banned for 27 years Casablanca - Said Bounowar Moroccan filmmaker Abdullah Al-Mesbahi has completed his film, Afghanistan, Why? – a project which been banned from production for 27 years. In an exclusive interview with Arab Today, the filmmaker said that his film is being prepared to be showcased in Moroccan cinemas, adding that it has undergone some changes to “cope with recent developments” in the Arab world. A number of Arab and international superstars are part of this project including Grecian goddess Irene Papas, Egypt’s Soad Hosny and Abdullah Gheith and international star, and former Mr Bond, Sean Connery. Abdullah Al-Mesbahi said the film revolves around the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan, with the film looking into the Taliban, Osama bin Laden as well as al-Qaeda, both past and present. Mesbahi stressed that he will continue his work in the world of cinema, despite efforts to prevent him. He is known for a number of political, social and emotional films.
