The 1st Disaster and Military Medicine conference

The 1st Disaster and Military Medicine conference kicked off today under the patronage of Sayyid Badr bin Saud bin Harib al-Busaidi, Minister Responsible for Defence Affairs.  The three-day conference is organized by the Armed Forces Medical Services.

   The conference, which was held at Al Shafaq Club of the Sultan's Armed Forces, started by a speech of the Commander of the Armed Forces Hospital in Al Khoudh, Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the Conference, a presentation on some of the roles of Armed Forces Medical Services during the climatic conditions and two working papers presented by a number of lecturers with long skills and expertise in their medical and military from fields inside and outside the Sultanate.

 

   The aim of the conference is to prepare the medical staff in the Armed Forces Medical Services, the Ministry of Health, Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) and the Royal Oman Police (ROP), train them to perform their roles, achieve the highest professional standards, provide optimal medical care, and improve the skills of the participants.

   The conference also comes within the framework of the Sultanate's preparations for Al Shumoukh/2 and Swift Sword/3 exercises scheduled for October this year.

   More than (500) participants from inside and outside the Sultanate will present more than (22) working papers.  The papers will be presented, divided into (8) main themes dealing with a number of aspects related to military and disaster medicine, Including natural disasters.

   The opening session was attended by a number of ministers, undersecretaries, a number of SAF commanders, a gathering of SAF senior officers, a number of invitees from the Ministry of Health, the Omani Medical Specialties Council, SQU, government and private hospitals in the Sultanate, and a number of officers, commissioned officers and privates at the Armed Forces Medical Services.
