Al-Azhar Grand Imam Ahmed al-Tayib said on Tuesday that the Sunni Islam's leading authority is ready to provide training courses to French Muslim preachers on means to confront extremism.
Al Azhar top cleric made the remarks during a meeting with French Foreign Ministry’s Religious Adviser.
In response to a request made by French President François Hollande, the Grand Imam asserted Al-Azhar is the only institution that provided moderate teachings of Islam throughout the past 10 centuries.
Al-Azhar undersecretary Abbas Shoman attended the meeting that took up means to boost cooperation.
During the meeting, al Tayib said a new centre was inaugurated to monitor distorted teachings about Islam on the internet.
