Pope Tawadros II of Alexandria and Patriarch of Saint Mark Diocese has said that the Egyptian church does not play politics.
The church only serves national action, the pope stressed in a speech at a conference on building awareness in Qena via video conference.
The church won't be outlining lists for parliamentary elections, but Egyptian Copts will sure take part in the polls, Tawadros said Tuesday.
He urged the people to interact with and serve society.
The church has good ties with all institutions and bodies and with Muslims everywhere, Tawadros further said.
The church plays a spiritual role in the first place, Tawadros stressed, adding that it also has a social role to play in the service of society.
