Cairo - Mahmoud Al Rifai
Former head of Egyptian musicians, Iman El Bahr Darwish has claimed that the musicians syndicate elections on Friday were illegal. He added that the newly elected union head, Mostafa Kamel, was appointed with false votes. Darwish told Arabstoday in interview, that the elections will be voided by the Egyptian judiciary because he has yet to complete his term. Darwish stated that he had a court ruling that would reinstate him. He said: "I have raised two lawsuits against the election and the Minister of Culture as they gave themselves rights that are not legally supported.” Further asserting: "Everyone knows that Mustafa had been rigging his papers in the elections.” The former head emphasised that he had done “everything in his power” to successfully lead the syndicate, despite criticism claiming otherwise. The elections were held on Friday at Jalal El Cherkaour theatre in Cairo, Egypt. Singer Mostafa Kamel beat his competitors by more than 500 votes.
