Al Azhar Grand Imam Ahmed el Tayyeb asserted that the true meaning of Jihad in Islam is to fight the enemy for God's sake.
This came in his weekly speech to be aired on Egyptian TV channel on Friday.
He added that Jihad in Islam can take other forms like reforming education and nursing people's health.
Tayyeb pointed out that if Jihad in Islam aimed to control people's lives and to interfere in their affairs as well as dividing the peoples then it is Jihad for the devil's sake not for God's sake.
