Egypt is making vigorous efforts to rectify the religious discourse as part of a comprehensive conformation of extremism and terrorism, President Abdelfatah Al-Sisi has said.
Sisi made the statement in a meeting with Luxembourg's Foreign Minister Jean Asselborn, in Cairo on Tuesday, according to presidential spokesman Alaa Youssef.
The talks focused on developments in Egypt, which Sisi said they reflected people's will for change and restoration of the Egyptian identity, Youssef said in a statement. These have to be viewed within from a regional perspective.
The President noted that Egypt is keen on realizing balance between basic freedoms and security and stability, as the country is righting terrorism, the spokesman said.
For his part, Asselborn said the European Union (EU) is keen on supporting Egypt to achieve stability, pointing to a consensus that it is the key state in the Middle East, with a pivotal role on the Arab and Islamic levels, Youssef added.
