Liverpool - Arab Today
Everton pulled Sunday one of the biggest results of the season, beating Manchester City 4-0.
City needed the win to move into the Champions League spots and put pressure on both Manchester United and Liverpool to win in the match they play later today. However Everton potentially put a dent in City's pursuit of the Champions League's places.
City started out strong and Raheem Sterling missed a one on one early on in the first half. However Everton through their star Romelu Lukaku converted their first chance in the match after 34 minutes. Lukaku's international teammate in Belgium Kevin Mirallas found space to cut back the ball and Lukaku fired into the bottom corner past Claudio Bravo.
Guardiola's side seemed undeterred by going down and Aguero came so close to equalizing, but he couldn't arrive in time to meet Kevin De Bruyne's cross and convert it into the empty net. City's biggest chance however came through their right-back Bacary Sagna, whose header was cleared off the line from new signing Tom Davies.
The Toffees made City pay for the missed chances and Mirallas turned scorer this time, converting Ross Barkley's pass into the net in the 47th minute. Everton were sensing blood and Davies, fresh from clearing the ball of the line, dribbled past two players before playing a one-two and dinking the ball over Bravo for a debut goal.
With Davies stealing the show, another new signing took the plaudits and punished City for their abysmal performance. Former Everton defender John Stones' clearance hit an Everton player and found its way to new signing Ademola Lookman alone in the penalty area, he put the ball in between Bravo's legs and into the empty net to give the fans what will now be a famous victory.
City remain fifth with 42 points, although they can move below arch-rivals United who face Liverpool later today. Everton on the other hand are seventh with 33 points.
