Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri rued missed opportunities after his side's 3-1 defeat to Barcelona in the Champions League final.

Having won the Italian league by 17 points and wrapped up the cup last month, Juventus had been chasing the first treble in the club's history.

But second-half goals by Luis Suarez and Neymar ended Juve's hopes in Berlin after Alvaro Morata had equalised in the second half to cancel out Ivan Rakitic's early goal for Barcelona.

"Unfortunately when you play against great players, you think you have things under control, then they can turn the game, as happen tonight," said Allegri, after his first season in charge.

"The team did what they had to do with great character, we come out of this final with greater self esteem and more self awareness.

"We're sorry to have missed our chance, but I can't criticise the team.

"As I said to the boys in the dressing room, the enthusiasm around what we have done around Italy is solely down to them."
