The president of a Maltese football club confirmed on Tuesday that the club's new investors were in talks about signing former sprint icon Usain Bolt. 

Valletta FC president Victor Sciriha told Malta's Magic FM radio that the club's new investors from Dubai had held discussions with the Bolt's agents.

Sciriha said he is meeting with the investors later on Tuesday.

Bolt is currently undergoing a trial with Australian A-League side Central Coast Mariners as he looks to earn himself a professional football contract. He scored two goals for them in a weekend friendly.

Valletta managing director and CEO Ghasston Slimen told ESPN on Monday that the club hopes to sign the eight-time Olympic sprint champion in time for the Maltese Super Cup match on December 13.

Agent Tony Rallis, who is representing Bolt while he is in Australia, told ESPN "there is a club in Europe that has offered Bolt a two-year deal. They have been taken over by new owners who have aspirations of Champions League football."

Valletta have won the national championship in five of the past eight season but have never gone further than the second qualifying round for the Champions League.

Bolt ended his glittering athletics career last year. He has said on several occasions he would like to become a professional footballer.
