Emad Meteb has been declared unfit to feature in Ahly’s Egyptian Super Cup tie against ENPPI on Sunday, the Cairo giants said on Friday. Ahly said on Wednesday the striker would be fit to face ENPPI, but he was eventually dropped after failing to recover from a back injury that kept him out of the team’s 2-0 African Champions League defeat by DR Congo’s TP Mazembe. “Emad Meteb, (striker) Fabio Junior and (defender) Mohamed Naguib were not included in the squad, because they are yet to fully recover from their respective injuries,” Ahly said on their official website. Coach Hossam El-Badry could rely on Ivorian Oussou Konan, who joined Ahly in the close season, as a lone frontman. Sunday’s match will be the first competitive game in local competitions since February’s Port Said disaster, which forced a suspension of all domestic football activities. Ahly have agreed to play the match despite incessant protests from their hardcore supporters (Ultras Ahlawy), who insist they will not allow football to resume unless “justice is done” in the notorious Port Said saga. Around 400 of their members stormed the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) headquarters on Wednesday and threatened to escalate their protests if their demands were not met. Sunday’s match will be played at the Egyptian Army Stadium in Borg El-Arab, Alexandria, behind closed doors due to lingering security concerns. From: Ahramonline.
