South Africa defeated Senegal with a 2-1 victory in Polokwane to go to the top of Group D with four points as qualifying continued across Africa for the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
The hosts took the lead in the 43rd minute after a contentious penalty was awarded for handball.
Just minutes later, South Africa doubled their lead on the stroke of half-time thanks to an individual goal from Thulani Serero.
Senegal grabbed a goal 15 minutes from time through Cheikh Ndoye, but were not able to achieve the equalizer before the referee's whistle, to leave the team in second place with three points.
The other Group A game will gather Burkina Faso "third with one point" and Cape Verde "at the button with zero points" later on Saturday.
