Lille's Swiss striker Michael Frey will be out of action for up to four months after undergoing ankle surgery, the Ligue 1 side confirmed.
"Frey was operated on this morning on a right ankle fracture. He will be unavailable for three to four months," Lille confirmed on the team's Twitter account.
The 20-year-old arrived in the northern outfit last August to fill in for departing Ivorian Salomon Kalou, and has scored three goals for the team. He hurt his ankle in a duel with Lorient's Wesley Lautoa during Lille's 1-0 loss in Brittany on Saturday. The injury is another blow for the club who are sitting seven points above the first relegation spot.
With Divock Origi expected to leave for Liverpool at the end of January, the team look set to recruit a new striker before the transfer window closes. Danish defender Simon Kjaer also suffered a leg injury on Saturday and is undergoing tests to evaluate how long he will be sidelined.
