Denver Broncos cornerback Aqib Talib is being treated in Dallas for a gunshot wound to the leg, Broncos spokesman Patrick Smyth confirmed on Sunday.

"We've spoken with Aqib Talib, who is being treated at a Dallas hospital for a gunshot wound to his leg. He's OK & we're gathering more info," Smyth, the Super Bowl champion team's vice president of public relations, posted on Twitter.

The exact circumstances of the shooting remained unclear, although multiple reports said Talib was injured early Sunday morning at a nightclub in Dallas, where he has an off-season home.

Talib is in the third year of a six-year, $57 million contract with the Broncos, who defeated the Carolina Panthers in Super Bowl 50 in February.

The Broncos are scheduled to travel as a team to Washington on Monday to be honoured for the win at the White House.

Talib was indicted on an aggravated assault charge for an incident near Dallas in 2011 but the charges were dismissed for lack of evidence.
