Bastian Schweinsteiger's contrat with Manchester United

A potential transfer for Manchester United-reject Bastian Schweinsteiger to Red Bull New York has been ruled out by the club's head of global soccer, according to a report on Saturday.

"Bastian Schweinsteiger is a great player with a great career. But there have been no conversations, he isn't and will not be a topic for us," Red Bull's Oliver Mintzlaff told German daily Bild.

Schweinsteiger has yet to make an appearance for United under new manager Jose Mourinho this season.

The ex-Bayern Munich midfielder and Germany captain has been told it will be "very difficult" to give him any playing time this season.

The 32-year-old, whose contract with the Premier League giants expires in June 2018, has said United will be his 'last club in Europe'.

But there has been speculation of a possible move to other clubs in the Northern American Major League Soccer (MLS).

"We would receive Bastian with open arms," MLS boss Don Garber told German magazine Kicker.

"He would be a leader for many of our young players.

"Of course, we're following exactly what happened with Bastian."
