Aftermath of Cairo church bombing

President Abdel Fattah El Sisi has said the tragedy inside the Boutrosiya Church next to St. Mark Coptic Orthodox Cathedral in Abbasiya on Sunday shocked all Egyptians not only the church.

In statements after his participation in the military funeral of the church bombing victims, the president said the crime resulted from the state of frustration the powers of evil are living in.

The president said success by the army and police in Sinai caused a state of frustration among the enemies of the country, adding that Egypt will not rest until the perpetrators of crime are brought to justice.

He said such powers failed to incite the public opinion against the state by using economic conditions as a tool for incitement, and also tried in vain to strike tourism.

The president called on the parliament and the government to move quickly to issue laws dealing effectively with terrorism, expressing confidence in the unity of Egyptians.

The president said the criminal has been identified as Mahmoud Shafiq, 22, who blew himself up inside the church using an explosive belt, adding three others, including a woman, suspected of involvement in the incident were arrested and two others are still hunted for.
