An earthquake measuring 6.9 on the Richter scale jolted 73km NE of Finschhafen, Papua New Guinea at 03:33:59 GMT on Friday, the U.S. Geological Survey said.
The epicenter, with a depth of 65.0 km, was initially determined to be at 6.1 degrees south latitude and 148.3 degrees east longitude.
