A 5.8-magnitude earthquake hit Taiwan region at 11:52 p.m. Thursday Beijing Time, according to the preliminary assessment by the China Earthquake Networks Center (CENC).

The epicenter was monitored at 22.78 degrees north latitude and 121.24 degrees east longitude, Chinese news agency Xinhua reported.
