A devastating M 8.2 earthquake struck off the coast of Chile on late Tuesday, leading to five deaths and triggering a tsunami that pounded the country''''s northern coast with 2-meter-tall waves.According to reports, Chilean authorities advised citizens living in coastal areas to evacuate as soon as possible. The tremor mainly hit Iquique, 1,500 kilometers north of the capital Santiago The US Geological Survey said the quake was shallow at 12.5 miles (20.1 km) below the seabed and struck about 100 km northwest of the mining port of Iquique near the Peruvian border.No official assessment for damage is issued as of yet, but landslides were reported.
