Quake

An earthquake measuring a preliminary magnitude of 5.5 hit eastern Hokkaido in northern Japan, the Kyodo News cited Japan Meteorological Agency as saying.

There are no immediate reports of injury or damage from the 11:51 a.m. quake that originated at a depth of about 80 kilometers underground in the Pacific off the Nemuro Peninsula.

No tsunami warning was issued.

The quake logged 4 on the Japanese seismic intensity scale of seven in Nemuro and Nakashibetsu in Hokkaido, the agency said.
