A magnitude-6.5 earthquake struck off the coast of northern California on Thursday

A magnitude-6.5 earthquake struck off the coast of northern California on Thursday, the US Geological Survey said. 
The temblor at 6:50 am (1450 GMT) was located in the Pacific Ocean some 160 kilometres offshore from the town of Ferndale, which is about 418 kilometres north-west of San Francisco. 
Authorities said there was no threat of a tsunami from the quake.
