Magnitude 7.1 earthquake hits South Pacific

An earthquake with a magnitude of 7.1 occurred in the
South Pacific on Sunday, the US Geological Survey reported, according to dpa.
The quake struck some 140 kilometres north-east of Fiji's Ndoi
Island, roughly 300 kilometres north-west of Tonga.
It registered at a depth of 434 kilometres.
No tsunami alert was issued and there were no immediate reports of
injuries or damage, news outlets reported.
The area is known for regular seismic activity resulting from
collisions between continental plates.
