The island nation of Sri Lanka has topped Lonely Planet's list of travel destinations for 2019, with Germany and Zimbabwe rounding out the top three in its new guide "Best in Travel 2019."
Germany's number-two ranking was based in part on events across the country marking the 100th anniversary of the Bauhaus art school and the 30th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall.
Third place went to Zimbabwe, followed by the countries of Panama, Kyrgyzstan, Jordan, Indonesia, Belarus, Sao Tome and Principe and Belize.
In its top-ten ranking of cities to visit, Copenhagen took first place, followed by Shenzhen, the so-called Silicon Valley of China, and Novi Sad, the second-largest city in Serbia.
Rounding out the list of top cities are Miami, Kathmandu, Mexico City, Dakar, Seattle, Zadar and Meknes.
