Kuwait - KUNA
The Kuwait Society for the Handicapped (KSH) will organize a special arts festival in December, celebrating the UN naming of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah as a "humanitarian leader".
In a news conference, KSH's Secretary General and the Director of Very Special Arts (VSA) Kuwait Munita Al-Mutawa said that the festival provides an opportunity to people with special needs to express their feelings and needs by participating in specialized workshops designed for them.
She added that the KSH was honored as it joined the VSA, an international organization on arts and disability, 20 years ago and played an effective role in supporting the handicapped through arts.
For his part, the KSH's Director Hashim Taqi underscored the importance of art in human's life and developing society since it is a universal language that unites peoples.
He said art can convey a positive message to the society and increase social skills of the handicapped.
This year's festival includes some workshops on advanced drawing sessions, he added.
Thuraya Al-Baqsami, an artist, called on the government to provide further support to the handicapped in general and to honor artists with disability.
