Sayed Fouad

President of Luxor African Film Festival (LAFF) Sayed Fouad said on Thursday that the carnival received its overdue financial support to start events as of March 17.

The unpaid finance resulted in delay in timing of the African gusts’ flight tickets, Fouad who is a renowned scriptwriter said in a statement Thursday.

During a meeting with Tourism Minister Hisham Zaazou, the LAFF’s higher committee discussed the funding issue and its effects on the preparation, Fouad added.

The festival is mainly funded by ministries of Tourism, Culture, Youth and Foreign Affairs, the statement added.

The festival, in its 5th edition and for the first time, will collaborate with internationally renowned film festivals to screen acclaimed short films.

The selection will include short films from the 68th edition of Cannes Festival and the 10th edition of Short Shorts as part of the first aspects of collaboration with these two renowned festivals.

In addition to these two presentations, the festival hosts French producer and lecturer Didier Boujard who will helm a master class for a number of young filmmakers focusing on the characteristics of short films and the ways to communicate with Cannes Festival and its selection standards.
