In the form of a mono-drama, the performance takes place in the makeshift bedroom of a girl about to attend the engagement party of a secretly beloved relative, who chose a more attractive girl over her. Her state of emotional disarray leads to painful reflections over the conflicting and oppressive pressures that pervade her life.
With Zeinab Garieb as the leading (and only) lady, and set design by Yasmine Hamdy, the performance is simultaneously engaging, entertaining, and poignant.
Mirror made its debut at Studio Emad Eddin’s fifth 2B Continued festival, held from 16 to 19 January at the Falaki Theatre. Out of four performances, Emam's piece tied with Triangles Are My Favourite Shape by Seif Abdel-Salam, for Best Performance at the festival.
2B Continued, the brainchild of Studio Emad Eddin’s director of workshops and residencies Nevine El-Ibiary, acts as an incubator for emerging artists.
