Kuwait depends on the industrial sector to diversify and develop local economy by providing needs for workers and meeting demands of the facilities.
Statistics of Public Authority for Industry showed in a study given to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) that the industrial facilities, which are 1114, are distributed according to industrial activity.
Statistics said that there are 120 facilities work in food, beverage and tobacco, 23 work in textiles and leather industries, 114 trade in wood and its products and 94 work in paper and printing.
There are 159 facilities in oil sector, 265 in non-metallic mineral products, 25 in metallic products, 304 in manufactured metallic products as well as 10 in other industries.
Textiles and clothes industries are two per cent in the sector, wood industries are 10 per cent and paper is nine per cent.
It has been shown that the number of these facilities rose to 1094 in 2010, compared with 1079 in 2009. It became 1114 in 2012, compared with 1103 in 2011.
Kuwait provides a package of customs exemptions on industrial imports to support national industry. About 555 facilities benefited from those exemptions in 2012.
The total amount of industrial imports in 2010 was KD 736.7 million and customs exemptions were KD 36,8 million.
The statistics showed that number of workers in the industrial sector reached 70,766, including 4362 Kuwaitis.
