The Israeli Municipality in Jerusalem announced in a press release today that they are planning to build 2200 new constructions in East Jerusalem.
The Head of the Municipality declared that “this project is intended to consolidate Israeli authority in East Jerusalem and maintain its unity.”
A member of municipality told France Press that building work would not commence now in Al-Swari neighborhood, and that this is only a preliminary step. In fact, construction will take place in 8 years’ time.
He added that there are around 200,000 Israeli settlers living in East Jerusalem, which the Palestinians wanted to be their capital for their future state. Moreover, over 290,000 Palestinians currently live in East Jerusalem next to the Israeli settlers.
