The unemployment rate in Algeria decreased down to 9.8% in September in comparison with the same month of 2012, the National Office of Statistic said Tuesday.In its annual sample survey on employment in households, the ONS noted a "decrease in the volume of unemployed population by 78,000 in September 2013 in comparison with September 2012, i.e. a drop to 9.8%," the Office added in a release sent out to APS.The ONS survey noted that the "situation of the labour market in September 2013 is mainly characterized by increasing occupied population, making a differential of 618,000 in comparison with the same period in 2012," the same source added.In 2011, the unemployment rate in Algeria reached 10%, showing significant decline with university graduates, from 21.4% in 2010 to 16.1%.According to the Office, the survey’s results helped to make an assessment of the labor market in a bid to know the volume of the active population, the number of the unemployed population, their rate and characteristics of people in the labour market.The survey was based on the principle of the currently active population from the recommendations of the International Labour Office (ILO).
