The National Assembly (parliament) has given the thumbs up to amendments presented by the government to a draft law on consumer protection in the first deliberation. Under the fresh changes, a permanent consumer protection committee should be created at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, with representatives from several interested ministries and state bodies to be chosen as committee members. The amendments are primarily intended to ensure that consumers can enjoy safe and high-quality commodities and services. They also give consumers the right to get correct information and data on products and commodities they buy or use. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Commerce and Industry Abdulmohsen Al-Madaj thanked the parliament for approving the draft law which he said would surely lead to the protection of consumers
