Morocco is promoting a large-scale strategic operation to turn the city of Tangier into a modern metropolis, with the building of the most important merchandises port in the Mediterranean (Tanger-Med) and the Tangier-Metropolis project, said on Sunday Spanish paper “El Pais.”
Around a hundred projects are under way in the city of Tangier like the High Speed Rail which will link the city to Casablanca as of 2015, said reporter Javier Casqueiro in an article on the northern Moroccan city and its important infrastructure.
The Spanish newspaper recalled the Tangier-Metropolis project, launched by King Mohammed VI last year and which will span 5 years.
It also cited the Tangier-Med project, inaugurated by the sovereign in 2008, noting that thanks to the extension of the port’s two other terminals, its capacity will reach 8 million containers, 7 million passengers and one million cars yearly.
