Qatar will participate in meetings of the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations for 2014, which begins on Monday at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.
Qatar's delegation to meetings will be led by HE Minister of Development Planning and Statistics Dr. Saleh Mohammed Al Nabit, who will give a presentation on the achievements of the State of Qatar in human development, sustainable development, and social welfare, according to the goals of the Qatar National Vision 2030 and the goals of the National Development Strategy 2011- 2016.
The participation of the State of Qatar in the national voluntary presentations of the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations, after having achieved outstanding achievements with regard to the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
Qatar ranked 36th globally among 187 countries in 2012, according to the Human Development Index of the United Nations Development Programme after it had ranked 57 in 1997.
It is noteworthy that the annual ministerial review in the United Nations is an additional task for the Economic and Social Council mandated by the Heads of State and Government at the World Summit in 2005.
The review aims to assess the progress made towards the Millennium Development Goals and the implementation of other goals and targets agreed at the major conferences and summits of the United Nations during the past years, which constitutes the plan of the United Nations Development (UNDA).
