Khartoum - MENA
The UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) received notification from the Sudanese Ministry of Finance that all UNHCR relief shipments held by the customs authority in Port Sudan (some since December 2013) were being released, UNOCHA said in a statement released in its website.
UNHCR started to move the items out of the port immediately to deliver these to people in need and prevent additional demurrage costs. Shipments to Sudan that had been put on hold have been released, including those for the non-food items (NFI) common pipeline.
Meanwhile, 31,000 plastic sheets that have been held in transit in Dubai pending resolution of customs clearance will now be transported to Sudan.
Procedures for pending requisitions have been resumed as well. The table below indicates the status of the newly released shipments.
