Vodafone Egypt

Vodafone Egypt on Friday disavowed from Vodafone Qatar after it changed its name, saying the move does not represent the stances of Vodafone Global or Vodafone Egypt.

The decision only reflects the stances of the majority stake of Vodafone Qatar that is owned by Qatari businessmen and the Qatari ruling family by 70 percent, Vodafone Egypt said in a statement.

It added that the change of the names of the mobile networks was a collective move adopted by all the communications companies in the Gulf state, including Ooredoo.

It asserted that the decision is only belonged to Qatar and has nothing to do with Vodafone Egypt that is owned by Telecom Egypt by 45 percent and Vodafone Global by 55 percent.

Last month, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Bahrain cut off their diplomatic relations with Qatar, accusing Doha of supporting terrorism.
