Japanese shares fell Monday after losses on Wall Street and as investors sold stocks to lock in immediate profits after recent gains. The benchmark Nikkei 225 Stock Average lost 78.44 points, or 0.8 per cent, to end at 9,698.59. The Nikkei rose 1.34 per cent last week. The broader Topix index was down 4.96 points, or 0.59 per cent, at 832.86, according to a report of DPA.
