Tokyo stocks closed noticeably lower Thursday on weaker-than-expected machinery orders in Japan, with the key Nikkei stock index dropping 0.66 percent. The benchmark Nikkei 225 Average lost 57.59 points from Wednesday at 8,664.58. The broader Topix index contracted 4.52 points, or 0.60 percent lower, at 745.11. The sectors leading the decline included the mining, insurance and rubber products sectors, while the securities, warehouse and land transport sectors were among the winners.
