Tokyo stocks opened sharply higher Friday with the key Nikkei index surging 1.61 percent. At 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average advanced 143. 57 points from Thursday to 9,070.11. The broader Topix index expanded 13.78 points, or 1.81 percent, to 776.57.
