Spanish banks\' bad loans ratio shot to an 18-year high in February, official figures showed Wednesday, as they struggled with a mass of property-related loans turned sour. Doubtful loans surged in February to 143.8 billion euros ($188 billion) or 8.15 percent of total assets -- the highest ratio since 1994 -- from 7.91 percent in January, the Bank of Spain said.
