Supply Minister Ali Moselhi on Saturday said Egypt is one of the largest wheat consuming countries worldwide.
In a televised interview, the minster added that the country produces about 45% percent of its wheat consumption.
Egypt imports six million tons of wheat at a cost of EGP 24 billion annually, Moselhi said.
He added that 69 million citizens receive subsidized goods.
The minister revealed that database of all ration cards will be updated by October.
He added that about 60 percent of those who receive subsidized goods deserve them.
