Macedonia's gross domestic product (GDP) saw an increase of 2.2 percent in the second quarter of 2016, based on the data published Friday by Macedonia's statistical office.

The growth of GDP in the country was mainly driven by the construction sector, which contributed 31 percent, national statistical office said.

According to official data, construction was followed by the scientific and technical sector; administrative and support service activities by 11.5 percent; and the financial and insurance sector by 4.9 percent.

On the other side, the statistical office reported that household consumption increased by 1.3 percent in nominal terms, and its share in the GDP was 69.5 percent.

Even exports of goods and services increased, marking a 4.2-percent growth, while imports increased by 6.6 percent.
